Nose surgery can change the shape of your nose to something you are happier with. Many women have nose surgery because they don’t like the appearance of their natural noses. The nose can have a big impact on the appearance of your face. A small change can alter your profile and make you look different.
Nose surgery is a major procedure – and you should be prepared for what the surgery entails and how the surgeon alters your nose. The doctors will run through any potential complications with you and outline the risks involved. You need to be fully educated on the rhinoplasty procedure.
Recovery is often the most challenging part of a surgical procedure for the patient. Here are a few tips to help you recover quickly from nose surgery.
Know what to expect
It can take up to two weeks for the bruising and swelling to go down. You may need to take time off work to rest and at least one night in the hospital for the procedure itself. The surgeon should use dissolvable stitches, so they naturally disappear after a fortnight. However, it can take several months for your nose to settle into its newly aligned shape. You should be prepared for some initial pain that your doctor will help to manage.
Don’t wear eyewear
Do not wear glasses for the first few weeks after surgery. They will press on your swollen and bruised nose. You could try contact lenses if you have poor sight. Do not wear contact lenses for the surgery.
Sleep elevated
Sleep with a few pillows underneath your head and shoulders for the first few weeks. You need to keep your head elevated, even when you are asleep. Make sure to support your neck and shoulders as well to avoid any muscle pain. The last thing you need is a neck spasm on top of the recovery pain.
Use saline solution
Use saline water to rinse any crust or surgical debris for one to two days after the surgery. You can squirt the solution into your nose a few times away to help clear your nasal passages. Do not rub your nose to try and remove the crust.
Avoid strenuous movement
The surgery takes a toll on your body, and you need time to recover. Avoid any intensive exercise for a few weeks after the rhinoplasty. Stick to a light walk for the time being to give your body a chance to recover properly.
