Tips to take care of your patients' braces this summer

We all like to disconnect during the hottest days of the year. Travelling, enjoying the beach, relaxing - those are the only things that should be on our mind during vacations. Even so, your patients shouldn't forget that they have braces on their teeth. Make sure the party isn't ending by reminding them of the following tips if they wear orthodontics this summer:

  1. Dental hygiene

This is the basis of everything. Daily hygiene of teeth and gums is always important. But now more than ever, your patients should pay special attention. To ensure total care of their mouth and orthodontics, recommend your patients in having a small bag where they have the essentials for oral hygiene so they can always take it with them and take care of their teeth at any time of the day.

  1. Beware of certain foods

When your patients think of vacations, they will not want to deprive themselves. But if they wear orthodontics, they should be careful with certain foods that can cause their braces to peel off, or cause some discomfort. To avoid this, advise them to stay away from foods that are too hard or sticky, so everything will be smooth and calm.

  1. Acquire new habits

Your patients must also learn to eat the right foods. Make suggestions regarding cutting the toughest foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables with a knife and fork instead of using their teeth. This will avoid breaking and possibly the detachment of their braces.

  1. Glorious ice!

During the hot days of summer, it's almost impossible to refuse a cool drink with a lot of ice. Many patients may have the habit of chewing the ice at the end. Tell them: no! No! NO! Inform your patients that eating ice sometimes causes many dental problems.

  1. Contact numbers

Make sure your patients have your phone number so they can contact you if they have any problems with their braces. Having a way to reach you may solve their problem temporarily and help them feel more comfortable before they return to your office.

Let your patients know that with these tips the adaptation to their orthodontics will be more bearable and they will avoid urgent consultations to the orthodontist. That's it! let's enjoy the summer and not think about anything else.
